Plympton Academy

Christmas jumper day and End of Term Arrangements

With only a few days left before we break up for the Christmas holidays, these are the arrangements for our Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 11th December and for the last day of term on Thursday 17th December.

On Friday 11th December, students are able to wear a Christmas jumper rather than their blazer / PE top  in return for a donation of £1 to St Lukes Hospice. Donations will be collected during the afternoon tutorial session. All other aspects of the Academy uniform should be worn as normal. We will also be running a ‘spare change’ amnesty, inviting both staff and students to donate any spare change that they have (especially small change of 1, 2 and 5p coins) and this will also be collected during the afternoon tutorial. Our first fundraising event for St Lukes in October raised an amazing £1128 which has paid for the end of life care for one patient and provided support for their family during the difficult time. We would love it if we could raise over £2000 by the end of term.

On Friday afternoon, the students’ usual lesson timetable will be collapsed, with students spending period five and the afternoon tutorial session  with their tutor. This session will focus on student wellbeing, with a variety of activities planned to help students focus on their own wellbeing during this busy time. The activities are being planned by the Heads of Year and more details will be shared with students by their form tutors during this week.

On Thursday 17th December, students will follow their timetabled lessons for periods 1 and 2 and therefore should bring the necessary equipment for these lessons.  Tutor time reading will take place as usual, followed by a virtual celebration assembly which will be streamed in tutor groups. Students who are in receipt of free school meals will be able to collect their lunch during breaktime.

After the celebration assembly, students will then be dismissed as follows from their usual exits:

12:45 -     Sixth Form, Year 11 and Year 10

12:50 -     Year 9

1:00 -     Year 7 and Year 8

Students return to the Academy on Tuesday 5th January, and will follow their Week A timetable. No homework will be set for students in Years 7 - 10 over the Christmas holidays as we think it is important for students to rest and recharge ready for the new term. Any homework that is set for year 11 and Sixth Form will be set on ClassCharts.
