Plympton Academy Welcomes British Dance-Theatre ‘New Adventures'

Students from Years 7–13 at Plympton Academy recently enjoyed a workshop focused on telling stories through dance and a unique theatrical twist.

New Adventures, an iconic and ground-breaking British dance-theatre company, delivered sessions with a focus on exploring Bourne's production of Edward Scissorhands.

The workshop included technical phrases taught as well as creative tasks aiming to develop the skills and techniques of our young people. The workshop aimed to give joy, energy and insight into the workings of the company, and Plympton Academy students left feeling elated and informed.

New Adventures showed their passion for the creative arts with Plympton students, focusing on the importance of commitment, hard work and ambition.

Steph Jenner, Head of Dance at Plympton Academy, who led the event, says it's important for students to have these experiences.

She said: “Having New Adventures at Plympton Academy and working with our students has been incredible; they are a large-scale company and establishing those connections with industry professionals is so beneficial for students.

“Providing opportunities like this provides so much insight, allows them to create life-long memories and adds to their experiences in dance”

The workshop was a huge success and gave students the opportunity to learn from professionals who work in the industry and an insight into their future career progression.

Students who attended the workshop said:

“I loved the energy and feelings evoked in the workshop.”

“We enjoyed the connection between acting and dance and how they enjoyed bridging together character and movement.”

"I am learning new movement and gaining knowledge from professionals.”

“I felt joyful and positive about moving forward in my studies with choreography techniques.”
