Plympton Academy

Careers

Every student will find an individual pathway to University and Career Success based on informed decisions. As an Academy we pride ourselves on preparing students for progression beyond Plympton Academy.  We do this through a programme designed specifically to meet the needs of our students. Our careers' education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) section of the website contains information about this, including the Careers Policy and the Careers Programme, both of which have been written in line with the CDI Framework for Careers, Employability and Enterprise Education 7-19 and the Gatsby framework.  It ensures our students are given every opportunity to develop their ideas on future careers. To support this programme we work with a wide range of organisations from different industries and also work with a variety of educational institutions including colleges and Universities.

Our CEIAG programme is a mixture of small careers events, activities, practical workshops, talks, lectures and visits. All are designed to encourage our students to explore different career possibilities and think "outside of the box".  All the programmes teach students much needed skills for when they leave education and enter the world of work. For more specific information see the careers page under Students.

The CEIAG programmes develop our students’ skills and knowledge including:

  • independence

  • appearance - dress for formal environments

  • interaction with professional adults

  • business etiquette skills appropriate for all work environments

  • knowledge of the world of work and further and higher education

  • self-marketing skills

  • labour market

  • resilience and grit

As part of our commitment to the students, we want to provide you with information to support you in supporting your child. This page of the website contains some useful documents and information, but please contact our Careers Leader at terry.doyle@plymptonacademy.tsat.uk if you wanted some more specific information, or you have any feedback about the careers programme being provided for your child.

Option Process

Students in years 9 and 11 are supported, as part of the options process, to consider which careers they would like to follow when they leave Plympton Academy after either year 11 or 13. This culminates in the 'Look to the Future Fair' when students are able to talk to teachers, employers and providers about the options available. For more details of the options process:

Work Experience

Students in years 10 and 12 will experience the world of work through a work placement in the work experience week, which is usually at the end of June beginning of July. Part of the careers programme in these years supports them to find out about the world of work and in gaining a work placement. Parents are asked to support their child in finding a suitable placement for that week. For more information:
